Raja Hirde Shah Lodhi

  Raja Hirde Shah Lodhi played an important part in the Bundela, Gond, and Lodhi Uprising of 1842. His ancestors had established their kingdom in present-day Damoh (a district in Madhya Pradesh) which was then under the Gond rulers. He ruled the northern region of present-day Narsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh. The Bundela uprising of 1842 was started by the local chieftains of Bundelkhand in order to regain their lost territories, their political rights and independence and to resist the exaction of new forms of revenue payment by the colonial government. Raja Hirde Shah Lodi of Hirapur brought in the tribal leaders of Gond, Narsinghpur, and Hoshangabad into the revolt. The followers of Raja Hirde Shah led by Gajraj Singh attacked the police post of Gujpura. The capture of Tendukhera, a village of strategic importance in the Hoshangabad district, by Thakurs of Madanpur was even more encouraging to the protestors during the uprising.
